When is a package the better choice?
- Your first trip abroad: you don't need to know how everything works.
- Travelling with family or a group: coordinating rooms and transfers for many people is tiring, and an agency does it every day.
- A multi-city trip: domestic flights, transfers and hotels in different cities, each booking depending on the others.
- Honeymoons: you want to enjoy it, not spend the days on logistics.
- A country where you don't speak the language: someone meeting you and answering in your language makes a big difference.
When is planning it yourself better?
- You travel often and know how to book and handle airports.
- A short trip to one city, with a direct flight and one hotel.
- You enjoy planning and have time to research and compare.
- You want complete freedom to change the plan day by day.
Questions to ask before booking any package
- What exactly is included? Flights with or without bags? Airport transfers? Travel between cities? Meals? Tours?
- Which hotel? Don't accept a '4-star hotel' with no name. Ask for the name and read its reviews.
- What are the cancellation and change terms? When do you lose money, and how much?
- Who helps you while you're there? Does the agency have a team at the destination, or just a phone number back home?
- Can the package be changed? Adding a night, switching a hotel, dropping a city.
