When is the best time to visit Thailand?

Month by month for Phuket, Krabi and Bangkok, from the team that's there all year.

PhuketKrabiBangkok

Short answer: November to April is the best time for Phuket and Krabi: dry, sunny, with calm seas. Bangkok is most comfortable from November to February. May to October is the green season, with tropical showers, rougher seas on the Andaman coast, fewer crowds and lower hotel prices.

Thailand month by month

Phuket and Krabi share the same weather pattern on the Andaman coast. Bangkok, in the centre of the country, runs a little differently.

Thailand's three seasons

  • Cool and dry (November to February): the most comfortable weather everywhere, and the busiest, priciest time. Book early for December and January.
  • Hot (March to May): still sunny on the islands, with calm seas in March and April. Bangkok gets very hot. Plan sightseeing for mornings.
  • Green season (May to October): showers most days, often heavy but short. The west-coast sea is rougher, and some boat trips are cancelled for safety. Hotels are cheaper and beaches quieter.

Is the green season a bad time to go?

Not necessarily. Many of our customers travel in July and August because of the summer school holidays, and still have a great trip. Expect rain at some point most days, plan island trips with flexibility, and enjoy lower prices. Our Phuket team watches the weather and moves boat days when needed.

Travelling over holidays

Flights fill up and fares rise around holiday periods, including Eid and the summer break. Book as early as you can. When fares from Ben Gurion jump, flying from Amman is often the better deal, and we can quote both.

Festivals worth timing a trip around

  • Songkran (13 to 15 April): Thai New Year, celebrated with huge water fights in the streets. Fun, but you will get wet.
  • Loy Krathong (November full moon): people float candle-lit baskets on rivers and the sea. A beautiful evening.

Our advice: for a first trip with the best chance of perfect weather, go between November and April. Tell us your dates and we'll tell you honestly what to expect.

FAQ

Questions we get asked a lot

What is the best month to visit Phuket?

January and February usually have the most reliable weather: dry, sunny and calm seas. December is just as good but busier and more expensive.

Is it worth going to Thailand in the summer?

Yes, if you're flexible. July and August are in the green season, so expect showers and some cancelled boat trips, but also lower prices and fewer crowds.

When is the rainy season in Thailand?

On the Andaman coast (Phuket and Krabi), roughly May to October, with September usually the wettest. In Bangkok, roughly June to October.
