Travelling to Thailand from Israel: the practical guide

Flights, entry rules, money, phones and etiquette. Everything our customers ask before they fly.

FlightsVisa and entryMoney and SIM

In short: Israeli passport holders don't need a visa for a tourist trip to Thailand. Flights take about 11 hours direct, or longer with one stop via Abu Dhabi or Dubai, and you can also fly from Amman. Bring a passport valid for at least 6 months, fill in Thailand's online arrival card (TDAC) before you fly, and carry some baht for markets.

Flights from Israel to Thailand

  • Direct: Arkia, and sometimes El Al, fly direct from Ben Gurion. About 11 hours.
  • One stop via Abu Dhabi: with Etihad.
  • One stop via Dubai: with flydubai.
  • From Amman: a good option when fares from Ben Gurion are high, for example around holidays.

We compare the options for your dates and include the flights in your package price.

Visa and entry

  • No visa for tourism: Israeli passport holders can enter Thailand visa-free for a holiday. The permitted length of stay changes from time to time, so we check the current rule when you book.
  • Passport: valid for at least 6 months from your arrival date.
  • Thailand Digital Arrival Card (TDAC): every visitor must fill it in online in the 3 days before arrival. We'll remind you and help if needed.
  • Return ticket and hotel details: keep them handy. They're part of your package documents.

Money

  • The currency is the Thai baht (THB).
  • Cards work in malls, hotels and larger restaurants. Carry cash for markets, street food and small shops.
  • Exchange offices in town usually give better rates than the airport. Thai ATMs charge a fee for foreign cards.

Markets are cash-only, so keep some baht on you.

Phone and internet

A Thai SIM card is included in every Thai Journey package, and your rep hands it to you at the airport. Thai mobile data is fast and cheap, and WhatsApp works normally.

Getting around

Airport transfers and travel between cities are part of your package. For extra trips in Bangkok, the BTS Skytrain and MRT metro avoid traffic, and the Grab app works like a taxi app across the country.

Electricity and plugs

Thailand uses 220V. Most sockets take two-pin plugs, and round European-style pins usually fit. Israeli three-pin plugs need an adapter, so pack a universal one.

Time difference

Thailand is 4 hours ahead of Israel during Israeli summer time and 5 hours ahead in winter.

Dress and etiquette

  • Cover shoulders and knees at temples and the Grand Palace, and take your shoes off before entering temple buildings.
  • Thais deeply respect the royal family. Never make jokes or negative comments about it.
  • Don't touch people's heads, and don't point your feet at people or at Buddha images.

Health and insurance

We recommend travel insurance for every trip. Drink bottled water, use strong sunscreen and bring mosquito repellent, especially in the green season.

With Thai Journey you're never on your own: an Arabic-speaking rep meets you at the airport, and our Phuket team is available 24 hours a day.

FAQ

Questions we get asked a lot

Do I need a visa for Thailand with an Israeli passport?

No, not for a tourist trip. You need a passport valid for at least 6 months and the online arrival card (TDAC). We confirm the current length-of-stay rule when you book.

Can I fly to Thailand from Amman?

Yes. Flying from Amman is often cheaper when fares from Ben Gurion are high, and we can quote both options.

What is the TDAC?

The Thailand Digital Arrival Card, an online form every visitor fills in during the 3 days before arriving. It takes a few minutes, and we'll help if you need it.
