Halal food in Thailand: Phuket, Krabi and Bangkok

Where to eat, how to recognise halal food, and where to pray, from our team on the ground.

PhuketKrabiBangkok

Yes, halal food is easy to find in Thailand, especially in Phuket, Krabi and Bangkok. Southern Thailand has long-established Muslim communities, there are mosques in every area we send travellers to, and certified restaurants display the Thai halal logo. Your Arabic-speaking rep can point you to halal places near your hotel.

How to recognise halal food

  • The Thai halal logo: certified restaurants and packaged foods carry the official halal logo issued by the Central Islamic Council of Thailand. You'll see it on menus, shop windows and many supermarket products.
  • Arabic signs: many Muslim-owned restaurants display the word حلال or Arabic script at the entrance.
  • Just ask: the word "halal" is widely understood in tourist areas.
  • Ask your rep: our Arabic-speaking rep and Phuket team know the halal places near the hotels we use.

Halal food in Phuket

Phuket has a long-established Muslim community and mosques around the island. You'll find many halal restaurants around Patong, in Phuket Town and near the island's Muslim neighbourhoods, from Thai seafood to Middle Eastern grills.

Halal food in Krabi

Krabi has a large Muslim community, so halal food is the norm in many places, not the exception. Ao Nang and Krabi Town have plenty of halal restaurants and street stalls.

Halal food in Bangkok

Bangkok has a large Muslim population. The area around Sukhumvit Soi 3, near Nana, is known for Arab, Lebanese, Egyptian and Indian restaurants. Many big malls have halal options in their food courts.

Thai-Muslim dishes to try

  • Massaman curry: a rich, mild curry with potatoes and peanuts, with roots in Thailand's Muslim community.
  • Khao mok gai: Thai-style chicken biryani, yellow rice with tender chicken and a sweet-sour sauce.
  • Roti: pan-fried flatbread, sweet with banana and condensed milk or savoury with curry.
  • Chicken satay: grilled skewers with peanut sauce. Order it from a halal stall.

Mosques and prayer

There are mosques in Phuket, Krabi and Bangkok, and Bangkok's Suvarnabhumi Airport has prayer rooms. Ask your rep for the nearest mosque to your hotel.

Hotel breakfasts

Breakfast at international hotels usually includes options like eggs, fish, fruit and bread, but not every hotel kitchen is halal-certified. If a certified kitchen is important to you, tell us when you book and we'll take it into account.

Tip: seafood is everywhere in Phuket and Krabi, and is often the easiest choice when you're unsure.
